As for voltage, the datasheet says: "VCC . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 3.3 V ±0.3 V" So anything from 3.0 to 3.6 is fine.

The problem I have is that the system will not enter the GUI interface unless it's being bootlogged You need to provide some more details. What exactly happens when not having the bootlog activated? Does it start into DOS then? If so, it may just have BootGUI=0 set in the msdos.sys.

I have yet to find a fast VLB graphics card that is actually faster than a slow PCI graphics card. VLB seems to max out at about 20 mb/s, with most cards doing only 10 mb/s. The AMD was slower than Intel until they came up with 16 KB L1 cache as well. So take the one from Intel.

If the mainboard supports it, you can install an AMD X5-133 overclocked to 160 MHz. This will give you about 16 fps in Quake with the Voodoo at 512x384 resolution.

No. Keep in mind that the 3dfx cards only do the last stage of the rendering, unlike modern 3d graphics cards. All the geometry calculations are still done by the CPU, and so the FPU is still used. If I'm not mistaken, having an FPU is even a requirement for 3dfx, since Glide heavily relies on it. …

You could just get an OPL2LPT or OPL3LPT for the parallel port. This would give you the possibility to have Adlib music on a separate audio out.

I've never installed the software that came with Sound Blaster cards, but isn't there a command-line utility for changing volume included? If so, you could just create a batch file for problematic games that sets the volume for FM to a level you are satisfied with.

Such adapters do exist, but you can not connect a 5.25" disk drive via USB. It simply won't work.
