Re: E-Wave : an ESS based waveblaster card

in Marvin \ Sound
One nice trick that the S2 has, at least the parallel version (I haven’t checked the wave table version), is it can emulate a Roland MT32 quite well via SOFTMPU.exe. It’s not perfect, but a nice feature for those that don’t own one. Luckily I do and that’s how I can say it’s a decent emulation.

Re: Space Quest 4 + AWE64 Digital Audio cutout Issue

Did it do this with games other than SQ4? The AWE cards are known to have MIDI/digital conflicts, so could well be an IRQ issue for example. Yes, it did it with KQ5 as well. TBH, I've decided to stick with my Audician 32 - it just works ... also works great in Win98 SE too. I'm planning to add a …

Simply loading CTCM + AWEUTIL /S for the AWE64 in DOS shouldn't eat any memory. The instraller loads 6 different programs across the config.sys and autoexec.bat - I haven't played with my AW64 for so long I cant recall what most of them do. Anyway, my Audician 32 has real OPL3 so I might just stick …

in Marvin \ Sound
G'day lads, I've just rebuilt my DOS 6.22 gaming PC (PII 200) with and AWE64 CT4500 + PC MIDI (MPU-401) card and I'm having issues with the digital audio. The Music via my Roland MT-32 vi the PC MIDI card is flawless. Im running the SB Basic + SB CTCM drivers from Phils Lab. I found a newer Sierra …

NightSprinter wrote on 2022-08-23, 20:15: So, is there a reason why the background on a Tandy 1000 with this would be green? The device works, but I get a green background instead of black.image.jpg It looks like you’ve got a bridged pin on the main IC or some other fault.

I really don't like emm386, is their any major reason why JEMM386 support can't be added? If I were to try and add JEMM support myself, where in your code is the call to the MS EMM386 api for redirecting the ports? Is it mostly in one spot/function or is it kind of spread throughout the program? I …

Are there instructions for programming the FPGA board? I'm new to FPGA. I've downloaded the Quartus software and installed the USB Blaster II driver. I downloaded the firmware from github, opened the CDF file, and hit the Start button. It says 100% successful. Is that all there is to it? I can't …

Re: OPL2LPT

in Marvin \ Sound
Excuse my ignorance, I just got an older IBM that has MS-DOS 3.30 installed. I'd like to give the OPL2LPT a try on this machine, which memory management works best for this DOS version? For XT class machines you can only run patched games, the TSR won't work. If you like Sierra games then it's very …

Allright I made the video. First I centered the screen, ensured I get correct colors with KQ1 and recorded MM1988 in composite mode: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8XSFA9Yduo I hope the video is good - anything else just ask retrocanada76 :) It still makes no sense to me that the black pattern is …

Re: Who ever had Mac?

I'm using a dual Xeon ML350 G4p which was a file server for several years, but is now serving as a desktop. And yes noise is the biggest problem with it. Nice, I used to have the 1RU DL360 Dual Xeon (I forget with Gen it was) and the very large (6RU), very loud DL740 Quad Xeon!!! I've had a …

Re: Who ever had Mac?

Which HP server do you run? (I'm typing this on a HP server running W2K8R2) Good old original HP MicroServer N36L with a P410 512MB BBWC Raid-controller & 12TB Disk + 120GB SSD for the OS and the custom AHCI FW. I used to have a bunch of Xeon powered rack mount models too, but the Wife wouldn't let …
