Retrobright is ok, just we should use a protective layer to slowdown the degradation. Maybe a good uv/abrasion resistant paint would be the best. Vinyl dye? i am afraid, you can create just a “zoomed” shadow mask, because the pixel size difference is not big enough between an old 14 inch 0.28 display, and a modern 4k, but much bigger screen. Eg 4k 27” 0.1481mm dot pitch

No, not the same, it is possible to detect and program it. The position is also different (if the card cannot detect the difference), just it does not matter on a crt with black borders. But this is just an example, i also would like to set different modes.

is there any card, where is possible program and drive not just the active modes, but also possible to add special modes? i mean, eg set the 400 line vga and the text modes separately. the datapath e1s would be very nice, but the api is limited from this aspect.
