Dang, trying to remember what I was doing in 1996 to just turn on CD input to a card all the time, so if you were in DOS and stuck a CD and hit play on the drive, you just heard it, no messing. So I'd hope, that would stick in a game that just put out CD audio and hoped you had it turned on.

xxx because I don't remember trailing figures it's 14.31818... cut off at 14.318 Mhz often. But you should see if it looks like saying something like 14.3 on it somewhere when you desolder it.

I think it was a pawn in the game with Intel "Guarantee us X million units of CPU a year and we do solemnly swear to stop making x86 of our own design" and they got that signed and sealed and turned around to Cyrix, "Hey, wanna make CPUs with us?" and Intel left all "Not like that!"

Okay that's the 14.xxx Mhz reference crystal then. The one ringing to rule them all, 48mhz for the USB lords, 24Mhz for the floppy kings etc.

Off the top of my head, UAE windows releases up to year 2005 should work good, and you should get decent performance (3 or 4 times A500 clockspeed) on that machine

That one I think is near your RTC and might be the wall time clock clock crystal, usually 32.xxx khz.... you can actually steal one out of a quartz wall clock. Symptoms of it going out of spec would be system time going all over the place. RTC fail on boot etc.

It is often the case with DOS sound, genuine hardware in period machine or not, that the first application to mess it up, leaves it messed up for everything tried after. Thus I suggest it's made clear whether everything was tried individually after a fresh boot or not.
