I thought he was saying that they might be used instead of wire links or "zero ohm" resistors to bridge tracks over so you can avoid having to have another PCB layer. If they are also doing that duty as well as capacitoring, then you need to make sure you join the dots.

Occasionally the clock and NVRAM (CMOS) batteries were separate, also a thing later in the 90s was having the security settings like supervisor password and hard drive encryption key stored on a different battery backed RAM than the regular CMOS settings.

I think the kind of noise would generally be in the 10s of kilohertz and lower, which sounds like farts, buzzes and squeals on a soundcard, but doesn't affect mhz level signals much.

I'd grab a 4650 AGP if I saw one under $25, but otherwise I'm not bothered. The EE, hrrrrmmm, the kind of 775 board that can run it to the max, probably takes Core 2s of double the performance, maybe even quads. I try to avoid the top end of a CPU line for anything less than very cheapy chance …

Those Tridents will also fire up in mono (green only as luminance) mode if the VGA connector isn't snug or is dirty... or if it doesn't like the monitor... (Single neuron of it's detection circuit going "Dunno, looks sus" )

I think there's an option with these type of sockets of cutting the bottom out and soldering with a thin tip internally, but I could be wrong.
