It doesn't matter what revision of LS-486E you have. Only SiS 496 of PR stepping supports EDO properly. Older steppings such as OR, NV, NU, MU do not.

PLL malfunctions are very occasional in my experience. If you borrow a high speed scope, it should help. I use a 200MHz Fluke 199C for such purposes, but this thing is very expensive. I suggest to double check all SMD components around the PLL because they are more likely to fail.

If it works fine with a K6-3 or 3+ and the L3 cache disabled, then you need to replace those two cache SRAMs.

Cyrix/IBM PQFP 5x86 came with aluminium heat spreaders buried in molded epoxy while AMD chose copper heat spreaders. Makes some difference.

I'd say an AMD 5x86-X5-133ADZ is the most affordable high performance 486 solution. You can glue a heat spreader to it and run without active cooling even with some overclocking like 4x40MHz or 3x50MHz . ph4nt0m - do you know how to achieve this? Good work. It shouldn't be complicated to make a 1Mb module. It just takes two additional address lines. Needs eight 128Kx8 chips for the cache and one 64Kx8 chip for the tag. One more thing. The cache itself is fine. It's about +3.3V feeding it as well as SDRAM and AGP. It would be good to have more capacitors near the cache chips.
