I wouldn't use a dremel; someone with a fine hand + scalpel blade would be able to get the corner two pins revealed just a little more - tin these, I'd use legs from a capacitor for replacement legs, insulate all when done.

I'd always go for Windows 98 on any Pentium and above with 32+MB RAM. Simply because of more options with software and driver availability. Windows 95 is just that bit too basic to play around with in a retro OS sense.

I've been using an IDE --> SD card adapter (Sandisk 64GB Extreme) in a Tualatin based Slot 1 setup, seems fine and speedy here, I've a mechanical 120GB drive for game installs. The consolation is that if it becomes unstable it's only a few bucks to replace.

For future reference - somehow the double sided tape that held on a thin glass/perspex sheet over the plasma had degraded over time. I was able to remove the sheet using a razor blade, dusted it out replaced the tape and all is well. Plasma screens rock.

Hi mikem, Are you running the CF card off the VLB controller? Apart from potentially giving you access to larger partitions, what's the purpose of the XTIDE in your system? 2GB is a decent amount of space for a 486 + Windows + many games, you could do away with the XT-IDE card. JB
