I have never noticed any dead zone effect on any ball based mice, but every single optical mouse I have seen regardless of USB or PS/2 has a small dead zone and it is highly annoying when I work with pixel art or something else where I do precise and minute movements every once in a while.

That 0.04V is some sort of leakage current that passes the remaining circuitry (i.e through a chip via ESD diode or something). It isn't a thing to worry about.

L2/3/4 were never there and you can see they two are clearly bypassed and 3rd one probably is too so this will not be the cause. The contacts look fairly dirty, go over them with a pencil eraser. Do you have the initialization software / driver etc. ?

I used to use Miranda IM. I think it had a facebook plugin, no clue about Discord or other stuff. Miranda NG has taken over but I don't recall ever getting it work reliably on 98SE with KEX 4.5.x.

3 or 4 sticks I got are regular non ECC/registered. Most have a bad chip on them unfortunately, they fail memtest in specific locations. I've kept the sticks around for possible revival one day when a donor happens to come by.

This is definitely horizontal only distortion. Outside of ruling out HSYNC connection issue between the cards, I can only suggest trying a different monitor.

Is this distortion only in horizontal direction ? Chances are HSYNC isn't connecting very well and this will muck up any ADC level calibration too, leading to discolorations on those lines.

I definitely prefer the Dallas bricks, those batteries run forever while onboard solutions run the battery dry pretty quickly when the machine sees little use.

Cutting a trace to the pin if it is tied to VCC and soldering it to the !WE line from the controller (one of the IDE2 pins) if it already isn't there. But anyway 27C512 is indeed an OTP EPROM so no upgrading that without swapping chips.

From my experience this is a nvidia driver issue, with older drivers it doesn't happen but then you cannot use the better cards either...

All PCI YMF chips have SPDIF in and out, just not exposed on most boards. Some modding is usually necessary. I don't know if the PCI YMF cards support external analog sources in the digital path or not. The MIDI device would need extra modification to get SPDIF output on it.

!WE line of the flash chip needs to be isolated and connected to the required pin on the controller, only then will the updates to its BIOS be possible.
