New question, is there a anyway to fix the dismal Doom and general poor DOS 2d performance on these cards? I would look for a Dos Doom port that supports other resolutions- I recall MFB supports 640x400, Renutil might work with that. The real issue would be for less popular games stuck on Mode X.

That Pentium 200 MMX that you already have is probably the smart move. Maybe take a look at Evergreen Spectra or Kingston Turbochips to see if anyone had luck with those on a GA-586S?

There are industrial application 486s in PC/104 format. Much smaller than mini-itx but pretty limited in expansion expansion options. You would also probably have to design your own case.

If I'm limited to 20years, I'd probably make the same decision I did back then and get a Slot A motherboard. I'd change my GPU decision tho, I went with an ATI 9550 at the time and it was decidedly mediocre.

I bought one of the SB16 Multimedia Bundles to upgrade my 486sx-33. My gut feels that cd-rom became more popular with slightly later cpu's - like the DX2-66.
