Given what you have I would stick with Win98 over WinXP because: 1) Apparently some of the last XP patches require cpu instructions not present in Pentium3’s. 2) None of your current CPU’s or GPU’s can handle high end XP gaming.

It’s very cool that the motherboard has this capability but changing jumpers is such an awkward method for manipulating cpu speed especially if it’s something you want to do frequently. I’d have to do something like wire up a series of switches mounted on the front bezel.

I was gonna guess 500mb, I remember buying a 340mb shortly before upgrading my SX-33 to a DX4-100, but I was on a budget and definitely wasn't an early adopter of the DX4-100.

Why can’t you cut out LPT interface completely? If the usb driver can map to 0x378 why wouldnt you just map to 0x388 or 0x220 directly?

Does the vga output to external monitor work? If it does than you know it’s not a gpu issue. If you open it up take a look at the cable connecting lcd to motherboard, with many laptops if you noticed display flicker when opening / closing lid often times this cable is being slowly damaged.
