Agreed, I hate seeing people pay so much for a product that even back in the day wasn't worth it. Originally I stuck with my overclocked Geforce4 Ti 4200, and unless my build had to be period specific for exactly 2003 I certainly would go for either Geforce4 Ti 4600 or a Geforce 6600 GT.

Could this be one of those situations where you added more memory than the motherboard supports? 20mb isn’t a very typical 486sx-33 oem configuration. I’d try with 8mb.

PCI SATA controller seems overkill. I would definitely go with the pata ssd, although keep in mind most of those are 44pin you will likely need a 40pin to 44pin adapter. You can find 16gb 40 pin DOM modules that won’t break the bank but I doubt these are even capable of maxing out the ide spec.

Very cool and unusual build. Ive been eyeing up thin clients with sound blaster compatibility lately, I think the WT941GXL is probably the best available but I haven’t seen them on eBay for < $50.

Yea Diamondville/Pineville Atoms suck, they are next to useless. You could probably make a killer DOS gaming rig if you threw a SB compatible PCI card in there. Or use DOSBox on your Win7 install it would emulate out to something like a Pentium 66 class chip which is still good enough for most DOS …

My only thoughts on posting a direct image is whatever size drive I use, that’s the size the user would be stuck with unless they are comfortable with gparted or another partioning utility. Am I wrong?
