Great project. However a 'lite' version would be nice with minimized PCB size and component count. PCB manufacturers like Aisler charge per square centimeter, so the lite version without display could be made much cheaper.

Thanks for the quick reply. I do have a bunch of 8K EEPROMS and an ISA NIC lying around. Also I have in mind assembling a XT-CF Lite 4.1 card in the future. So maybe I will first ask a friend to write the XTIDE BIOS to one of the EEPROMS and I'll put it in the NIC. Any hints on what I have to mind …

I also have the first bracket now done. I use the Keystone brackets that are available at several vendors. A colleague and friend of mine has a good stationary drill which we used to drill the two holes and used a countersink to make it nicer. It's a bit of work, but fits really well and looks good. …

It's just a guess, but maybe it works if you try 997 cyl / 15 heads / 32 sectors. Old BIOSes started from 0 (0-15 heads) from what I remember. Wow, thanks! The IDEINFO.EXE worked! I had been struggling to get the geometry for a 256MB card. Since I don't have a regular PC anymore, this was the only way on my 286. 😀

Can one mod an ATX case? I figure the ISA slots should fit, right? Using an ATX power supply is a good idea anyway. I guess the ATX I/O plate would have to be made custom, since AT boards usually only have a DIN keyboard connector. Also the mounting screws might be a bit off.

Recently I installed Turbo C on my 286 project. I only have floppy drives so far, but it was awesome. That's where I learnt C first. Having a forum would be great. My bucket list still contains 'write your own adventure game engine'. And I would of course do it for retro PCs.

The idea with the regulator sounds interesting. But I think I don't want to shoehorn it on my existing board. Would be nice to augment the PCB design, though.

Yes, of course I won't give them away as legit AdLibs. This is clearly a reproduction. And right now I don't NEED three AdLib cards... 😉 Sergey Malinov has PCB designs for another OPL2 ISA card on his site. However, I thought it is neat that you can build your own AdLib lookalike.

The easiest way is to get a network card with a boot ROM socket, buy a cheap compatible flash chip for it, and flash the XT-IDE BIOS onto that. If you don't have a way of flashing the ROM, see if you've got a network card (perhaps for a more modern PC) that supports flashing. Then you can use that …
