try command FDISK /MBR then just manually copy command.com, io.sys and msdos.sys Although I disagree with using dos for formatting and partitioning solid state media. I use other tool for this. http://wp.xin.at/archives/1449

boot the computer with a windows 98 startup/bootdisk. change drive to letter to whatever it assigned your CD and type setup. go look on google for a 98 bootdisk floppy img.

you should recover the data. before attempting to fix it. worst case scenario then you can reformat the drive and copy the data back. Sys commanding the drive only works if you dont have NT installed on the drive. If you have a NT based MBR u need another tool.

You can try something like recuva, that's the only free one I know about but there is better software than this out there. Ive used a program called getdataback by runtime software for years. specifically version 3.66 for fat and ntfs

try using smartdrive or some other disk cache, real hard drive might be faster since it has it's own disk cache chips.

There are "reasons" historically" why bx has issues with ram over 384mb of ram. while later boards got better issues still persisted. Test sticks in mem test individually. Most boards have trouble running 512. Very good boards could do 756mb. 4 slot boards are rare. And usually bx will only work …

My guess is windows 7 is correct and your bios is wrong. To be sure run memtest 86 from a floppy and see how much memory it can count, and check for errors.
