Try to use 8 MB RAM (8x 1 MB). (30 pin, 70 ns, FPM). I don't think there are 30 pin EDO SIMMs. A DX2/66 should be fine. Take the ET4000 graphics card.

To minimize CPU usage I'd prefer SCSI HDDs. Anything from 2 to 8 GB should be fine.

Try to put a multimeter between the battery and the board. Tell us how many milliamperes your board draws from the battery. It should be a few microamperes.

Oh, you're right. I've got same board revision and jumper settings and I do not have any problem. AMD 5x86 133 ADZ running 40 MHz x4 and 2-1-1-1 timing.

Is there a reason for setting JP7 (near RAM) to 2-3 (3.6 V) instead of 1-2 (3.45 V)? Your CPU is overvolted...

When you get a bundle of hard discs and do a kind of triage by connecting the drive only to a PSU you may draw the wrong conclusion (false-negative).
