Apple controls the firmware and drivers ( kexts ) on there computers. Without the correct firmware and kexts unsupported hardware could cause havoc on the computer. Like CPU throttling, Fans spinning on high, over heating, etc....

Those are the two cases I had back in 1990's / 2000. I think I had a Pentium lll 500 in the InWin 500 with Win 2000 And a Pentium ll 400 in the Enlight 700 with Win98se

Back in 1990's I bought some nice denim shirts from SGI, HP, Intel, Oracle, and Sun at there compony stores. They use to sell to the public not just for employees. I have them boxed somewhere in my garage today.

Yes, I have a couple Gateway 2000 486/33 desktop computers and I hate them. They are loud and noisy and the Micronics motherboard bios is terrible. I could only get one of them to work. It’s and all ISA riser board however. No VLB.
