Well, I was able to upgrade the CPU to an Intel 486dx2-66 using the over drive socket. And I upgraded the ram to 16mb. I still need to get this CDROM drive working. The sound card works but I cant seem to get the Sony CDROM drive to work.

I would NOT buy a NEW AMD Ryzen CPU over Intel. Just my personal preference. I think it has more to do with compatibility and stability with motherboards and cards. Hardware and drivers. I'll take Intel over AMD anyday. AMD seems to be okay for the desktop for gamers but for office productivity …

You can use a heat gun and pour some no-clean flux on the ram chip legs and then reflow ( heat ) with heat gun the legs and just let the flux do the work of repairing the solder joints. Here is my 6-core 32gb HP z400 and HP z800 with 12-cores and 48gb. both with HP liquid cooling. I put SSD's in both and they perform pretty good. I sold them about 2 years ago. They where just to BIG and Loud. I use an HP 6300 mid-tower today with i5 CPU and 16gb ram and SSD.

Looks like a driver issue. Did you try a clean install first before you try anything else ? But definitely don't bake the card. Could be a Voodoo card memory chip solder issue but I don't think so. Looks more like a driver issue. If it does not artifact in post or DOS mode then it's a driver issue. …

Well, I was hoping it was just a dead CMOS battery or Missing hard-drive. Because I have fixed so many of these old thinkpads and that is all that was wrong with them. I am going to put it away for now as I need to order some parts. I will try to fix it later. Maybe early next year.
