I need some computer heath check apps for DOS. CPU check ? Memory Check ? For the harddrive I can use scandisk. Is there a stress test app for the hard-drive in DOS ?

My Sony Vaio Windows 98 laptop came with Pentium-3 and DVD drive. AMD K6 processors launched in 1997. So, Yes. DVD's are period correct for AMD K6 Processors and Pentium -3.

What advantages do I have for using a 486dx-66 over a 33mhz CPU ? I am just going to use DOS and Win 3.11 Will Games play better on the 66mhz CPU ?

Got a couple NEW Socket A motherboards for gaming builds. at Phil's computer lab recommendations. These should work very well for my needs. Going to add a Yamaha YMF-744 Audio Nvidia Geforce FX 5500 And DVD drive. For a very good DOS gaming computer build.

No ISA sound card? So you don't plan to use this system for pure DOS gaming, only from within Windows? On a system like this I would prefer a PS/2 mouse, but I guess the AT board is the limiting factor here. You'd need a PCI to PS/2 card, and a lot of your slots are already populated... …

I am looking for something more effective like a socket 370 cpu cooler. I just don’t know what adhesive to use to fasten it to the cpu. The cpu is not going to be used in any other computer so I don’t care if it is permanently fastened to the cpu.

What do you think is the best setup for 486 heatsink and fan ? I have not tested with a heat gun but they must get pretty hot. What is the recommended operating temperature of the CPU ? I would like to find a good heatsink and add a fan and somehow attach it to the CPU either with adhesive or clamps …

A pair is ISA GoldStar controllers for my 486 motherboards. These are super easy to configure with silk screen configuration markings. where the hell do you get all this stuff for cheap? It’s not always inexpensive. I just shop around and look for stuff that I find was of value and really helped …

I am just trying to share my builds and how easy they can be to setup. I am not trying to make things difficult. Old computers are difficult enough. If you use the right parts setup and installations can be easy. Often drivers where a problem with old components.
