It is nothing special. Just a flat gray primer/paint all-in-one, with anti-rust properties. The old computer cases usually didn't use aluminum since it was far more expensive than sheet metal.. Unless you had a really high end case of course.

Test fit with all the parts.. the only thing that doesn't fit is the LEDs inside of the LED retaining rings. Depending on the 5.25 and 3.5 bay device selection, it can get quite heavy hanging off the faceplate and cause some bowing outward. I don't believe it will yellow. If you want a smooth surface, you can print in ABS and then use acetone vapor smoothing.

Problem with these -5V adapter is, that they generate the -5V from -12V. Modern PSUs have weak -12V rails. I prefer Enermax EG365AX, which is pretty much the last PSU to still have -5V. 1A on both -5V and -12V. The adapters work fine.. You're only drawing a few dozen milliamps off the -12V for the …

Got my drive cage rev'd for the 3D printed retro case.. perfect fit for the 5.25 and 3.5 drives. Also test fit a keylock, which also fits perfect. Microcenter had the Creality Ender 3 Pro for $99 just before Chrismas. I picked up my Longer LK5 Pro (300x300x400mm prints) for $188 shipped on Aliexpress's 11/11 sale. They're definitely cheap these days. I paid around $700 for my PowerSpec 3D Pro back in 2014 or so.. 🤣.
