Sorry for the long wait, running bsetup.exe and changing the graphics mode to 'screen-buffer' mode should solve your problem. I recommend also trying the VESA modes, as they provide higher resolution options.
MIDI music doesn't play Oregon Trail 1.2 when using 16bit exe

I can't seem to get the MIDI music to play on the 1993 version of The Oregon Trail for Windows. The digital music works, but the 3 MIDI tracks don't play. The music plays under Windows 98SE using the 32bit exe, but not the 16bit one.

The 2nd image seems to show it better, but it looked like card was skipping every other row of pixels, giving a scan-line effect. I think the top and bottom parts of the "s" are cut off by the scanlines, making it look like an "x". A memory issue would be likely, but I've tested the memory with one …

I have this TNT card that occasionally displays text modes like this wrong. Does anyone know what might be causing this to happen?

Could you post a picture? That may just be the normal Voodoo2 dithering pattern that becomes more noticeable on LCD monitors.

I've found that the latest 2002 drivers are very bad in terms of game compatibility. The latest driver version I can recommend is version 4.11.2560. https://gona.mactar.hu/ATI_3D_CIF/ is a good resource for finding which driver to use.

The Last Express: The Windows and DOS versions of The Last Express seem almost identical at first glance. Mouse movement is nicer under Windows, and the game can be set to higher refresh rates under Windows than in DOS. Links LS 1997: The Windows version of Links LS having issues on Windows 98.

I would highly recommend using a glide wrapper if you want the game to run and look the best. Some things don't display correctly with the D3D renderer, and the DDraw renderer has been deprecated and doesn't support the perspective mode. This thread has some more info: https://www.vogons.org/ …

if the game is using the voodoo 2 its not using the primary card. voodoo 2 just uses primary card for pass through 2d but when the voodoo 2 card is active it switches off the pass through and its just getting video off the voodoo the primary card is not involved. That's interesting. I wonder, if the shareware version is supposed to play them, though. Is there an encrypted full version on the disc by any chance? If it's a real CD, you could try playing it in Windows Media Player or a standalone CD player. Just make sure to skip track 1, as it contains the game data.
