There might be better and maybe more HiFi ways, but this worked more than well enough for me: TL082.jpg If you run across another solution, please don't consider this a gold-standard idea and I'm always interested in other/ better ways. And maybe there'll be others who want to chime in on this, too.

With the default settings (A220, I7, D1) for a Soundblaster as music / sfx device, it seems to work just fine on a CS4237B based soundcard here.

A missing DAC shouldn't damage anything and wouldn't even reflect back to the pico - there's just three outputs going there (LR, DIN, BCK). The only effect on the pico from the DAC-side I could imagine would be, if there were shorts in that area (e.g. from soldering) - but that's not how it looks …
