Do you have the latest BIOS? If not, try the latest one from here. If that fails, check the pins on the CPU side, are they all intact?

What motherboard do you have? If it's 430VX or TX based, then you might need older DIMMs, usually 32MB PC66 do the trick.

As an owner of a Cyrix 5x86... I'd recommend the AMD 5x86 133. The Cyrix part can be faster than the AMD part, but it requires some luck to overclock the 100MHz part to 120MHz, compatible boards (which you have) and perhaps more importantly, some degree of tweaking to enable features and registers …

Are you sure this is an issue with the SD card or adapter? Is DMA enabled for the controller in the device manager? Have you given "Cacheman" a try? I find version 4.1 to work pretty well for Win9x.

I've had this exact issue on countless systems when trying to run Ultima IX. I'm afraid there ain't much of a solution, it seems to be tied to the Direct3D renderer. Perhaps you could try a Glide Wrapper such as the original dgVoodoo, I remember the problem going away when using a 3dfx card.

Messed around with it for a few hours and while I can get DOS to be mostly stable, Windows 3.11 is a lot more volatile. I tried the FLUSH switch, going to take a look at the BARB one next. What an annoying thing 🙁

I can attest to that, it has been discussed multiple times here, Deus Ex really needs a much faster processor than stated in the system requirements.

Ignoring some parts of the description, it bears some resemblance to Altered Beast which did have a (crappy) port on the NES. Perhaps he's misremembering the system and it was actually on the MegaDrive?

I've had great success in the past using the USB driver linked in this blog post. Haven't tried them in a few years, but they worked well enough at the time as I recall.
