As for OS/2 - great OS. No question about it. Had a lot of potential, but sadly it never out-grew the casual/business use case. Entirely related to lack of other software available for it. Every once in a while i fire it up for the kick.

PVI is one of the finest 486 mobos out there. You should not feel nervous about it, but feel really good instead. :) Attached you all the info (manuals, etc), bioses and drivers you will probably need. That latest revision pvi-486sp3 board is really good. If you have it already - go for it. It is a no brainer.

In my opinion: Dx50 is a dos and win3.1 capable cpu. It won't do win95 well. For dos: vlb >> pci, eisa, isa. In other words - vlb/isa motherboard will work better than pci/isa, or eisa ones. Decent quality vlb vga+ide adapters can run natively at 50mhz with 0-wait states. Decent quality sram chips …

I see how my answer reads wrong. Better version: Tested with with DOS, Win3.11 and Win95. Performance is good now with DOS and W311. It was always fine with Win95.

@Feipoa Tried the UMC drivers you provided. Version 3.1 worked best. Stable with HDD speed at 17 (max 18) and Sandisk CF card. Pretty much doubled the I/O metrics to ~7-9Mb/s from ~3-4Mb/s before. Updated SpeedSys screenshots.

@Feipoa Your comments about Biostar MB-8433UUD-A helped me to sort out that nagging problem related to L2 cache instabilities. In my experience Intersil CPUs tend to overclock better than Harris ones. They are the same design really, but wonder if Intersils were produced on improved fabrication process ...
