The question was if DMA can be performed without routing data through system memory. Similar to how NVIDIA's RDMA works now-a-days. As i said above - cannot think of ordinary retro hardware that can do it.

I am a bit ignorant about fans. Have bunch of them in a box. Cannot remember any of their history. The one that worked well was that AVC - so went for the same after it died. Thanks for the brand names. That's great. Going to expand the search criteria.

They scale better than the 12 and 15 ns rated chips for sure - overclock better, hold tight timings better, etc. But there is a catch in there. Yep. Over the last 2 days i spent time testing 200MHz Am5x86 chips on VLI UUD and other boards. I guess i was at UUD while responding here and the 1:2/3 divider was fresh in my head.
