If you have more than 16MB of memory I'd recommend one of the AHA-152x or 153x instead. The 1542 is an awesome adapter, but its best feature of using bus mastered DMA bites you in the ass if you have more memory than the ISA bus can address. You are then forced to use double buffering which kills …

not really they are just bus transceivers and address decoders caching disk controllers for ISA did exist, but that's a whole different beast

you should be able to get 2-1-1-1 with 20ns chips at 33MHz, but that's probably too slow for 40MHz

You're right it is the original SCAMP. Interestingly it does have a -33 added to the part number so it's obviously a higher speced revision

The SCAMP chipset is only rated to 25MHz max, so you're probably hitting its limit before you hit the limit of the CPU.

the POD83 is great, someone on here did a thread about it not too long ago - it produced the most performance gains over its base platform out of any of the POD series

if there is a DIN back there that is just arbitrarily blocked by that stupid plastic I would not hesitate to remove the plastic because it is just stupid, and should have never been there

the manufacturer would have punched it out themselves if there was a connector there, it was probably an optional feature (unless of course it was a just a QC failure or something)
