If you have a dosbox.conf file in the same directory as the EXE file then it'll automatically use that one instead. Well actually the starting directory/cwd, but yes that is right. That is intentional for portable instalations and people who just like having the configfile there. The "weird" …

that is intentional in order to make dosbox work nicely on Vista and with more then one user on your system. Just use the shortcut to edit it and it should be fine

aside from making a dynamic recompiler for a system that doesn't have one currently, there aren't many large single focus targets in DOSBox. Savestates is a big one, but this requires far to much knowledge about everything and I actually want to code it myself.

at the time I didn't like the idea of having a lot machines which were almost not going to be used. Nowadays I might reconsider as we have lots of machines. Still the amount of games that need it is quite small as far as I know

Duke DC (which is by the same creators) uses prefetch tricks in their installer. They have a patch on their website that removes them. Perharps Caribbean has the same.

well I couldn't come up with some better. For some reason it is very hard getting xterminals to resize from within the application. and most of the time ncurses fails to notice the fact the terminial is resized.

nonetheless the problem with the configuration file will probably be less of an issue with 0.73 as that one will create one by default if it can't find one.
