you might want to try to lower the priority of dosbox. in the configfile there is a setting for that.

well there are quite a few audioplayers for dos. playing a wav file is the most basic operation there is, as the data can be streamed directly to the soundblaster. So I would try if I were you to find an alternative dos wave file player Shouldn't be very hard to find.

there is your answer 😀 wav is a windows program. not a dos program. Maybe they have upgraded their wav.exe ?

with every now and then I meant in the heat of the battle with many ships .In general it is there. I don't know if it is because of dosbox it's emulation or that the game itself is flawed)

in general the emulation is quite accurate. I thought that the regulars cores used the asm fpu core as well. I must be mistaken though

please note that gus emulation works without these patches as well. These just add extra stuff to games that support it. It's not required

please note that you can't really compare dosbox and dosemu they are totally different approaches to running dosgames

Is DOSBox supposed to read the volume label, even though it doesn't display it on a "dir" command? Yes it should, but checking the fat code indicates that it might not be doing doing this.

it's compressed in the installer. you can compress the exe yourself if you wan't there is nothing to gain and little to loose: I think there were some crashes in one of the cvs builds because of the compression system. Somehow the initial starting memory of dosbox become different or so. dunno …
