Well it works to some degree. if the path is illegal then dosbox will report an error. (so installers can use devices to determine wether a directory exists or not) However if the path is legal, it appears that I made a small error in the coding as we then compare the full name against the device …

download the debugger version of dosbox(development forum) and you have a good starter debugger which is undetectable by programs.

well I checked the code of dosbox. Our caching of the directory lists works fine. the application reads it twice (because of the 2 lines?) Basicly when you press tab the application reads first i:\workf (takes 10 seconds or so) then it reads i:\workf again (which takes 10 second). The contents of …

@ulfschaper: this is possible. DOSBox hasn't been created with 2 monitor setups in mind. (and negative cursor positions are 2 monitors setup only I think)

okay there is 2 times the same path in there. so that doubles the amount of time (workf is read 2 times totally by the application)

what is the volume label of the disk? My MSCDEX specs says that the abstract filename was (at that time) limited to the 8.3 standard and that any longer was an extention Get Abstract File Name AX 1503h ES:BX Transfer address; pointer to a 38 byte buffer CX CD-ROM drive letter (A=0, B=1, ... Z=25) …

I hopefully have some time to work on dosbox this evening. Not sure if I make it to your problem then. (got some patches to review) You might want to see what happends if you enter dir inside the same directory twice. (does the time decrease then ?)

well our caching routines should cache the files in the way minimax described. If it is being cached in each time, then something else might be wrong. To be honest I never used dosbox with more then 1000 files in one directory.

you might want to enter all directories and running dir on them with a batch file before starting the program that should cause the files allraedy to be cached in.

hmm they do a get abstract filename. that one might be interresting to check. (1503) I think the driver function 85 (stop audio) is part of their shutdown sequence although it might be part of the detection as well. I don't know from my head what should be reported if there is no audio playing when …
