well I've been looking into the font thing myself fot the KQ1 booter in composite cga mode. It gets some weird artifacts on the screen with text (red spots) I figured this is caused by our smooth fonts. So either I need to code a filter or add a different font for cga mode. Not sure yet which one to …

well dosbox doesn't emulate a pentium (yet). Don't see that much reason for it. Games might think they run on some weird pentium clone if it rdtsc works and start using more pentium instructions.

a simple way would be to use 2 sets of write handlers. one that detects wether something changes. if it changes then install the regular writehandler and set the update screen variable to true. Not sure if it's the most efficient, but it would save a test on each write

hmm implemented that thing once. Mortezumma's revence or so wanted it as well. Didn't commit as it's a pentium instruction.

yeps. most games just wait till it's time to do something (waiting like all other things takes time as well) especially dosgames as dos can only run one program at the time

easiest is too compile the sources yourself. but else you need mingw specific.

@hunterZ: about the old part.... why would old be a problem ? It's a fossil driver. If it works then it works. Dosbox emulates an old system as well....

look at the page of ykhwong. (see cvs builds.) he has a deviceloader that works under dosbox.

It depends on how smart the extender is. It should check for a certain cpu bit instead of only vcpi. I thought DOS/32a did this allright. WD would know more about this though.
