Re: Retro Rig Photo Thread

Love those dell cases, probably my favorite of all time. I have a ddr p4 version. I also have the horizontal p3 model. Both run win2k. They are nice! Very solid too. Dell is probably my favorite brand for early 2000s computers. They are just so awesome and reliable. What model is your P4? An 8300?

Re: Retro Rig Photo Thread

Here’s another one I pulled from the trash. CCAF8A42-7277-4D1B-8744-A4FD7A3B5813.jpeg A Dell Dimension 8200, the exact Pentium 4 system I had been looking for. It’s a socket 478 and uses RDRAM. It currently has a 1.8GHz Willamette and actually runs very well, but I will be swapping it out for a 3. …

Re: Retro Rig Photo Thread

Got this one working today. 4E0FA9E3-BD6D-483B-A56A-D296B98B5942.jpeg 13174B18-CCB3-4CB6-8B87-D51DA51560D4.jpeg 77F1661F-C07B-4300-85AC-7006BF1CBF32.jpeg It’s a Compaq Presario 1090ES from 1997. Benchmark software for Win9x, 2000/XP systems?

I'm looking for something decent to benchmark my Win9x, 2000 and XP era computers. What would be some good ones to use? I just want something super simple. Kind of like Checkit, but for newer, Windows systems. Just some simple CPU, graphics and hard drive benchmarks is all I want so I can see what …

Re: Retro Rig Photo Thread

Found this in the trash a little over a month ago and finally got around to testing it a few days ago. IMG_5470.jpg It's a Compaq Evo D500 desktop, made right before the HP disaster that ruined Compaq. So it's one of the very last true Compaqs. Naturally, it works absolutely fine, as the Evo was …

Re: Compaq SLT 286

Is the SLT plagued by bad capacitors like the LTE? Should I remove the old capacitors immediately and clean the board to prevent any kind of leakage disaster? Thanks for your help. No, it is not! Compaq was very generous, and used all tantalum capacitors on the motherboard. And the axial caps in …

Re: Epson ActionNote 500C

What do we have here? IMG_5431.jpg Hell froze over. I actually found a 4MB memory expansion for an ActionNote!! Been after one for ages. This gives 8MB total: IMG_5432.jpg IMG_5438.jpg I'm actually shocked that Kingston made memory upgrades for these. I have installed the memory expansion into my …

Re: Epson ActionNote 500C

I got the 4SLC/33 a few days ago, and also found another 500C for cheap (which I bought mostly for the case, since it still had the original case with it). Here's a pic of the 4SLC/33: IMG_5425.jpg That black and white display sure is nice! The hard drive really was bad, so the Areal A260 went in, …

Epson ActionNote 500C

The very first Windows 3.1 computer I ever owned was an Epson ActionNote 500C. I found it at a thrift store almost 10-years-ago. I was mesmerized by how old and primitive of a laptop it was, and really liked it a lot. I was quite young at the time, so when the screen eventually failed on it, I had …

Re: Compaq Contura collection

Check this video out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9YhiiOUWu64 You'll have to skip forward to find where he shows the hard drive repair. Also, your drifting contrast is caused by a bad capacitor on the inverter board in the display housing, but the display always had streaking and shadowing, as I …
