Re: Newly made PCMCIA sound card

Great news, Kevin! I think not many peolpe have the skills and parts to build a card themslves. So the steps above and info release can be done in parallel. Given the IBM 3D card was the inspiration for this project and also the five main features of your card (SB, OPL, MIDI, MPU , game port), I'd …

I checked that too. A Pentium game from 1997? Doesn't look like a candidate for DSS support. Theotetically, yes, not a good candidate. But Duke3D and Redneck Rampage aren't either, yet they have the support. So I had a slim hope. I also tried Norse by Norse West: The Return of the Lost Vikings …

It could be a mistake by MobyGames. A quick way to check would be to take a look at the DOS covers, they used to list the minimum requirements and the devices supported. Yes, it may be a mistake... The cover says "All major sound cards supported" https://www.old-games.ru/games/pc/last_rites/covers/ …

Re: PCMCIA Sound Cards

I made a small breakout for the 25pin connector on the IBM 3D Sound, and after some initial poking around I was unable to identify the gameport or midi port. - does sending the midi messages to the soundblaster midi port actually goto the external connector when in dos? I could not identify any …

Re: PCMCIA Sound Cards

In terms of cards that have the option to output to the internal laptop speaker, have you noticed some are better than others? I have only tested one so far (the panasonic VEW211P) . I tried it out on my Thinkpad 230cs and I found it to sound terrible, but it could be the laptop. Once I put my …

Re: What game are you playing now?

I was more concerned about the physical side of things. Can one really install 4 or 6 CD-ROM drives in any retro machine ? There were CD changers for up to 6 or 7 disks back in the day. It would assign a drive letter for each disk. As for 4 separate drives, guess it's possible with additional IDE …
