I was messing with SONY FA-P1 external PCMCIA FDD drive. Got it for $10 on ebay. It worked finally. In DOS it requires SS and CS + dedicated driver that I found online. I'm attaching the drivers just in case.

If tere is no picture, then the problem is either cable or video card or PCB of the LCD itself. Is therean image on external monitor? Does the screen flicker or react anyhow if you move the screen? Thanks to all of you! Now I have lots of things to try. @ragefury32, this pcmcia card is unfortunately neither OPL3 nor DOS compatible. It works only as MIDI synthesizer in Windows. The laptop has built in OPL3 clone chip, but you can't compare it with MIDI.

I ran Zandronum (Doom mod) on P233MMX, W98 with Yamaha pcc10xg (PCMCIA) as MIDI device. The card sounds awesome. It also makes a huge difference in terms of performance. If I switch to software Roland MIDI synth the game runs signufucantly slower, becomes unplayable. And with the Yamaha it runs …

You can try adding NOAUTO option to dos= string: dos=high,umb,noauto It prevents loading some drivers that are loaded in the backgroung in DOS 7.1

I found a way to get use of my Yamaha pcc10xg card (which is windows only MIDI card) in DOS games...in a way. It tuned out that there is Win9x port of VDMsound driver. And it works with Yamaha card in DOS session in Win98. Yet in some games music sounds strange/slow. I suspect it's due to CPU load. …

What a beast! Haven't ever seen anything like that. It would be even cooler if it had a normal ISA slot in it to install any ISA device. But it's great anyways.
