Re: AGP vs PCI video card performance discussion

PCI bus later has driven much more demanding tasks on bridged GPUs (even if still far from the AGP/PCI-EX versions but as said IC bridges <> chipset bridges combination/latency imho make the whole logic even more limited but still capable of running complex games; when I tested the Geforce GT610 …

Re: AGP vs PCI video card performance discussion

I don't know about 3dfx PCI cards I never compared them with the AGP versions in the time correct systems but older cards there was quite a difference in speed when testing AGP or PCI versions, like the Rage Pro AGP vs PCI. I don't know what and where is the limitation, maybe the chip and card was …

Re: AGP vs PCI video card performance discussion

[LONG POST INCOMING] Ok so I managed to find the time to do a clean install of win9x on one of my machines and re-ran some benchmarks. Here is the hardware configuration: - AMD K6-2+ 500Mhz @ 500MHz - Aopen AX59 PRO VIA MVP3 - 128MB SDram PC133 @ 100MHz CL2 - 20GB Seagate HDD - Yamaha DX-XG (YMF722) …

Re: AGP vs PCI video card perfromance discussion

GPU clocks are highly likely to be slower on the Hercules vs the MX400. Then also FX cards can be all over the place with memory bus width and bandwidth. So you're saying the cards should perform the same? I don't know about the hercules card, but the Leadtek MX400 runs at 175 core and 166MHz ram. …

AGP vs PCI video card performance discussion

Hello vogons! I've recently (last summer and autum) aquired a lot of PCI video cards, namely a couple of Hercules 3D Prophet II MX PCI and a Voodoo 3 3000 LC PCI witch I stumbled upon at the recycling center and a couple of "new" G eforce FX 5500 witch I got from Aliexpress and started using them in …

Re: Voodoo 3 3000 LC PCI woes

I would experiment with VIA 4in1 drivers and different versions and test the card on a different board for sure. Failing on Direct3D games makes me think that there is something funky going on with rest of the DirectX components... What does dxdiag say about the Voodoo? Have you tried disabling …

Re: Voodoo 3 3000 LC PCI woes

do you have other pci cards installed, maybe theres some conflict? i had issues with my voodoo 3 in my compaq presario (i think its a pci bridge device causing issues), i ended up with a asus socket 7 for it. I do - see above and below. The V3 will not work on my Compaq Deskpro EN either, and …

Re: Voodoo 3 3000 LC PCI woes

Pandemonium won't work on a Voodoo3. I forgot to type the 2. I'm playing pandy 2. Alltough I read someware there's a patch for pandy 1 to make it compatible with the voodoo 2 and 3, just like the 1.04 patch for Uprising. Haven't tried it myself tough... And GL Quake is not a Glide game. It can be …

Re: Voodoo 3 3000 LC PCI woes

I'm tossing these ideas out here: Have you tried DirectX 7.0a? The 1.03* - 1.07 drivers are designed with DX7 in mind (for the DirectDraw portion). Or DirectX 6.1 with the 1.03* drivers? I just finished testing with DX7. Now neither d3d or openGL work. I have a hunch the V3 PCI is drawing more …

Re: Voodoo 3 3000 LC PCI woes

Have you tried a different GPU to rule out other factors besides the Voodoo3 ? Personally if I have any issues like this with 98 and I cant resolve them with reinstalling the drivers/new drivers or updating DirectX then I usually just reinstall the entire system, you coudl spend hours pissing …

Voodoo 3 3000 LC PCI woes

Hello everyone. I'm having issues with one of my retro machines and I'm hoping one of the video card / 3dfx experts on this forum could help. A few months ago I installed a Voodoo 3 3000 PCI I found at a recycling center into a socket 7 machine. Everything seemed fine up until today when I tried …

Re: Is there Anyone "Overpaying" for Hardware and Proud of it? Well, maybe not Proud, but...

Are you paying "stupid" prices for hardware? No. Not for old or new hardware. There is hardware I lust over - rare hardware, not already in my collection - but my spending has limits, because of two reasons: I'm a husband and a father, and retro-computing is not my only hobby. Like a few other …
