Re: Could you build a retro PC right now?

in Milliways
I don't really have any more spare parts. I've sold and given away a lot of parts before I moved to my new house. I don't really see myself as a collector and do not care about getting all variants of some type of tech. I only buy stuff I think I can actually use for one of my retro systems.

Re: Did you create maps for games?

in Milliways
I've made a lot of Warcraft 2 maps and tracks in Stunts. Also Dune 2 maps when a custom editor came out. I don't really consider those 'mapping' , since you're mostly only arranging prefabs. When it comes to making stuff from scratch: I've made a lot of Doom maps, but most of my time has gone to …

Re: Sound card without i/o bracket, how do you fit in?

It's possible to slot it in without the bracket, but the entire weight of the card would rest of the pins (if it hangs like in a vertical case). I've made my own brackets into the past by cutting into them with a multi tool. If you're used to handling tools it's not a very tricky job. Holes for the …

Re: Should I buy a MT-32 'old' today?

Wow, I wasn't aware of this! It means that on my current setup, I can also daisy chain my SC55 and Roland UM-ON adapter , right? In theory, yes. Connect the gameport midi out from your AWE64 to the MIDI IN of your SC55. Then connect a midi cable from the SC55s MIDI THRU to the Roland UM-ON. The …

Re: Should I buy a MT-32 'old' today?

A Pentium 3 with an MT-32 seems like a mismatch to me. An early 90s system would be a lot better. I haven't used my MT-32 a lot, since there arent that many titles (and even less that I like to play) for it. However, I'm really into the aesthetic of the machine. Having it sit on my desk with its …

Re: What made you join VOGONS?

in Milliways
I've always been into retro games and hardware but I've only recently joined the forums. I think it's because I miss forum communities. I've been a member, moderator and admin on very active forums over the last 20 years but all of them have died out. People have moved on to Discord and Twitch, …

Re: What game are you playing now?

in Milliways
Dune surely is a rare blend of RTS and adventure, but I really enjoy it. Must have finished that game a dozen times by now. It's also the most advanced game a 8088 can still run (with very reasonable speed!l) so I love to set up my old turbo XT for it. Getting the CD version with better graphics and …
