Try a few other games using opengl or d3d. Do any of them work on the viper passing through the v2?

None whatsoever. WinXP is best on a core2 platform, with pcie and something like a gtx560. Save agp for win98 and geforce fx series and below.

Finished a p4 rdram build. Was going to be win98, but it didn't like the 850MV mobo, so went with win2k instead and it worked. Have too many p4s already, but at least I got to see RDRAM type in cpuz 🤣

I thought Apollo Pro was widely affected, and I believe all Live cardsm in fact Audigy was affected too, and only until Audigy2 was it fixed to my knowledge. ...Which surprises me even more that I haven't had issues... Since my Google-fu is kinda failing me, what exactly did that incompatibility …

Sparkle was a low cost board of presumably questionable quality. But even the big names tended to focus more on performance than quality - none of them gave a shit if the cards still worked 20 years later.

I had a 386 when everyone else had 486s. I was sooo jealous of friends with the dx2. I could barely play Doom with a smaller view window. Eventually I got a 686 "multimedia pc" and spent more time using encarter than playing games.
