Just tried using a Aztech SGNXPRO16 and temu and it worked and sounded pretty good too!

Or simply use a home made D/A converter for the parallel port (Covox Speech Thing) in combination with the TEMU TSR. It will emulate the 3-Voice chip in software. The result isn't too shabby, I think. :) Of course, the real chip will be better. Especially in respect of the noise channel, for …

Is there a soundcard or some kind of covox-like plug that will do the job? I know it works in DOSBOX but I wanted to know what physical solutions exist.

Err it's the best win98 gpu that exists, 3dfx stuff aside. I'd say it's the fastest, but being the best takes more than speed for me. I think the best is the GF4 Ti 4600/4800. Or if accessibility and price are taken into account maybe even 4200. Those have plenty of power for DX8 games, run much …

I'd expect the 6600 is faster. I know the GT variant blew it out of the water often being 25-30% faster and sometimes getting near +50%. Even if the regular 6600 only matches the FX in speed it's still a better card regarding heat, noise and reliability. Imo the 5950 Ultra belongs to a display case …

The VGA extension cable finally arrived. Pass through video works fine with the AGP. However, when I run any glide tests or the 3Dfx Tomb Raider demo I get a "no signal" on my monitor. The chipsets used on ISA soundcards have the ISA bus interface built into them. And USB is slow (latency) because like almost all networking protocols it involves buffering (among other things), which bus-level communication does not.
