Thanks. I think the hang in HWiNFO is due to some interaction with W98. It's always best to run HWiNFO from clean DOS. On the other hand I noticed that the sound card was properly recognized here. Yes, the problem might be that the PnP card isn't initialized in DOS. For BIOSes without PnP support HWiNFO performs the entire PnP sequence and isolates/inits cards. If the BIOS is PnP compliant, HWiNFO relies on the BIOS. So if the card isn't initialized I think it could have such effects. I did …

Today I restarted one of the i430VX I have, the PC was fixed not long ago, it had a Dual-Voltage problem, solved by replacing the MOSFET (?) (TIP110A). On this PC I loaded and ran HWinfo for DOS. I am running this program on various older PCs, it is a diagnostic program, but there is no bench.
