I should clarify - Doom is playable, it's just a lower framerate than I would prefer. Which wouldn't have bothered me back in the day, but these days I also have a K6 system to run that kind of thing nice and fast!

Good work @trueno. I faced this scenario for the first time last night too. I had picked up a small form factor Aptiva that lacked HDD & ODD along with the brackets to hold them, but I still had the floppy and a CF adaptor. Win98 installed without a hitch! Who needs those lumpy old drives.

Cheers for the responses. I actually found my answer a few minutes ago! (I have a couple of SFX units handy, and that's a no go). The answer: Flex ATX. That's not technically what the stock unit is, but dimension wise, a Flex ATX will drop in here.

We had an equivalent clone system when I was a kid. I played several of the games BoraxMan lists. Some others I can remember: Ace of Aces The Dambusters Their Finest Hour: The Battle of Britain (slow) Arctic Fox Impossible Mission Many of the Sierra games of the period of course (SQ, PQ, KQ, LSL)

I added a Yamaha TG100 to my stack this week. I d0n't necessarily recommend it here, as there will be better experiences with the later / higher end Yamahas already listed. But it's still a really neat little unit, and the perfect GM addition to my 386 (where the SC-55's talents are wasted).

Don't rule out a Korg NS5R. The internal wavetable header means you can then add a Dreamblaster to the mountain too! Dreamblaster works in the Korg NS5R :)

I always do a fresh OS install pretty quickly. If there's an old install to dig around in, that's always fun for five minutes before I replace it. Darry makes a great point about checking for anything that might need to be archived.
