Maybe it's an opportunity to build something unique instead of throwing the damaged parts away. A retro wooden case with a 5.25 floppy drive with wooden front.

I'm afraid I don't have any experience repairing broken plastic other than glueing it together. It won't look the same though.

I didn't want to open another thread because I just want to vent. Got my AT case today with extras and the floppy drive came broken. It must have taken a nice kick to push the bolted drive into the case, breaking the plastic cover in the process. No way to repair that kind of damage or finding …

With a little work you can make the cable yourself. Buy a 26 pin edge connector and a standard ribbon cable. Observe polarity.

I once had a drive that didn't read diskettes because the plastic part that holds the diskette in place worn out. If I gently pushed it down while reading a diskette it worked fine.

I loved the 125p. I remember when we found a derelict 125p when we were kids and I took the emblem home. I still have it somewhere. Hungary was always a Lada country though because the 125p was roughly 25% more expensive than the Lada 1200 and the same as a Lada 1500. But the 126 was a huge success …

I use vinegar and baking soda. Sometimes the traces under the protective enamel are long gone and only it's outlines exist. It's best to make high resolution photos before cleaning to preserve the original trace layout in case you need repairs later.

Be careful with cleaning. This 286-NEAT was working fine with all that damage but went to hell as soon as I cleaned all the gunk up. The traces were hanging by a nanothread and I succesfully cleaned them away. It took a lot of effort to repair all the traces after my handywork.

Depends entirely on the country and the work involved. Is it a large shop or just a guy with some tools and experience? I can cite numbers but they won't do you good. An EEPROM repair costs here $5 (getting and writing new BIOS on chip) + the price of the new chip if needed. Standard repair costs …

I have done it too but that's not the point. You CAN find good things if you are lucky but I doubt many of us actually built their collection from dumpster finds alone. I just don't know why it would ever be considered stupid to buy something you want. If I want a Voodoo 2 card should I just go …

Awesome! They are getting harder to find in original condition(at least in Hungary). Most of them are used as a rally car and end up on the junkyard totaled.
