MDF/MDS is a disk Image created by Alcohol 120%. Did you extract the files inside OR what did you use to mount the image ? If you did not burn the image to cd or extract the image files properly then that could be the issue.

No they are all proprietary on the SB16 MCD versions. There are many SB16 with IDE and one came with SCSI.

One thing we know for sure: the board had a battery, whether external or onboard. CMOS typically draw 4 to 10uA to keep settings so even if a 1k resistor is used it would supply 3.6mA max to the cmos which is more than enough to keep it alive and not damage it.
