My personal approach is to squirt a bit on the CPU, use a piece of paper card (like the reply-mail cards stuck in every other page of a magazine) cut to a 1cm by 3cm spudger, then level the paste to a thin film. If you have bare spots, add a little more. If you have mounds and globs, add a little …

Tested a bunch or 3.5" floppy drives, two were toast but the other dozen work well. Odd part is that the two dead ones are exact same make and model 🙁

Another issue you will face is that most modern fast CDR blank disks will not burn proper in an older 4x or 8x CD burner. You need to look for something with a max of 16x. My fav old media was from Imation, Kodak and Maxell, have 100's of disks burned in late 90's that still read like new on those …

1999 was using a Plextor SCSI. Still have a PX-R412Ci from Jan 1998 (man. date) that works, uses those odd caddies to put the CDR in. Good luck on finding a CDR from 1999 that still burns after all this time. (added) Too bad your not thinking SCSI because you may have great luck getting a good 1999 …

If your BIOS was not set to AHCI when you installed XP then you cannot change to AHCI after. Changing AHCI affects Windows boot as AHCI has to be in the same state (either as AHCI or Legacy/IDE mode) as of time of XP Installation. You also must use the intel F6 boot AHCI driver when installing XP. …

Got my SD11, looks brand new as advertised. Seller said no accessories, but it also included an I/O shield, a separate Lotes strip (for protecting against HSF overhang?), and an IDE cable. Also snagged the fastest 1999 Athlon (AMD-K7750MTR52B A) for this board. Nice ! FIC always made good boards …
