The first 3 slots should really be removed (with a desoldering gun and some experience it's not very hard). My guess is that there's a lot of gunk underneath, and it will continue to eat away at all those traces that go under the memory slots. This is what i fear. Don't have the desoldering gun - …

My idea is to use it as a Windows 3.11 machine, so 4 Meg should be allright.

The green halo between the battery terminals is the electrolyte going between the layers, can't do anything to that. Hopefully this didn't short out or ate the traces there. I'll see how this thing boots up! Will probably first try to boot it with 6 Ram modules instead of 8, don't want the two …

Hello, Vogons! I've just got a 486 PC and the first thing I was looking to is its BIOS battery of course. In mine I see this is a rechargeable (?) Don't you laugh. I consider that I've beaten the Windows Minesweeper. Played it for hours every day between 1996 and 1998, ended up resolving the big "expert" field (99 mines?) in under 60 seconds. Never played any game since then.

Tou may have better luck with IDE-to-Compact flash interface and an appropriate size CF today. Older small HDDs in good nick aren't so easy to find anymore...

In my circles (broke students early-to-mid 90's), we couldn't afford AMDs too. Everybody was running Cyrix on Tomato boards, good times 😁 )
