Re: K6-2 450

Yeah if you use a video card with MPEG2 processing it is more manageable. Pure software decode is somewhat difficult to get smooth however. I was playing with this a few weeks ago. ASUS P5A and K6-3+ running from 200-600MHz. Tried a few different video cards. Voodoo3 as the software decode test. …

Re: GF4 or Radeon9600

The petals are angle dependence, You can also see optimized trilinear filtering in the jaggyness of the mipmap transitions. The 6150 is essentially doing bilinear filtering. With the DirectX 9 Radeons I think you can get better filtering with control panel tweaks. Not sure though. It doesn't really …

Re: GF4 or Radeon9600

I don't think I've noticed the filtering optimizations R300/R400 do. Geforce 5-7 are another story though. ATI was even frequently praised for their image quality compared to what NV was doing to compete. You can just set Geforce to HQ mode, but it has a speed cost. NV 50 series drivers were the …

Re: 939 8gb rig AN8 or A8N??

Getting 4 of these DIMMs going is nigh impossible. I think it might be working at DDR200 speed but it's hard to be positive it's stable. The power off issue is a parity error being detected I think. Overall I don't suggest AN8 for 2GB registered PC3200. Socket 939 in general is a pain in the rear …

Re: 939 8gb rig AN8 or A8N??

I got it working. It was RAM timing that was causing the shutdown. I had to set RAS Precharge to 6T. However, it appears that ECC is disabled. http://s9.postimg.org/8evbs4d0r/Clipboard01.png http://s9.postimg.org/u00efq9rf/Clipboard02.png http://s9.postimg.org/l7jfs1omj/Clipboard03.png

Re: 939 8gb rig AN8 or A8N??

I got 8GB of ECC DDR PC3200 and have tried it. The system POSTs and I can run Memtest86+ fine with 2x2GB installed. All 4GB is recognized. However, trying to boot XP or a Vista x64 install CD causes the system to power off and this is 100% repeatable. I can't determine what is causing this. I …

Re: K6-2 450

More interesting. Yes, a K6-2/3 will be a gimpy game machine. You can also see the thrill that people who upgraded from K6 to Duron experienced. :) https://web.archive.org/web/20040218102625/http://www.aceshardware.com/read.jsp?id=15000172 https://web.archive.org/web/20031229013654/http://www. …

Re: S3 Savage 2000

OldUnreal has an OpenGL renderer (UTGLR) that supports S3TC. It works on any card with at least DirectX 8 compliance. The DirectX 9 renderer can do it too. Glide does detail textures fine but has no S3TC support. Voodoo1 and 2 run low on texture memory with UT though. Voodoo1 4MB and Voodoo2 8MB …
