Man if I lived in Oregon I would work for Falcon NW. Building hot rodded custom game rigs and validating the latest game hardware is perfect for me I think. 😉

I think I have that CD. I will check out the version later. But it isn't exactly a image restore. It has apps,drivers, Windows 3.1, amd some wacky Gateway extras.

Palomino 2000+ is a ~70W CPU whereas Coppermine and Tualatin are ~30W. A lot of heat to dissipate there. Actually the sub 3GHz Willamette and Northwood P4s are around 70W too.

Yeah the pics show 5.5ns RAM which is rated for ~182 MHz. Neato. The 3500s were always annoying with that TV tuner junk that was forced down your throat.

Yeah I have that Steam version. They updated the engine to support D3D9 and converted the CDA to MP3s or something similar so you get music without a CD. Works very well. It's more than just a simple repackaging so I'd say it's definitely worth $5.

They are low heat because they are such simple CPUs. They are similar to a Pentium (but with SIMD) and that's why a P6 or K7 dusts them. I think they were most popular as cheap CPUs for embedded and industrial products.

Faster CPU is better. Check out the Ultimate 486 Comparison. FPU performance is important with 3D games.

I bet there's a company making boards with ISA slots though if that's what's needed. Something with DOS compatibility, serial ports and ISA slots could definitely still sell to industry today I think.

There has to be some company making industrial replacement boards if they are in demand... What company would want to rely on some 20+ year old ebay found-in-the-basement mobo to run their equipment!? Didn't Intel just stop making 486 CPUs in the past few years?
