Re: NVIDIA nForce audio experiences?

It uses Sensaura tech for 3D audio so you can probably grab a card that uses say CS4630 for a similar experience. Santa Cruz or Game Theater XP. Realtek was also using Sensaura libs back in the XP days. Sensaura 3D audio is pretty nice. The NV APU is based on Parthus Mediastream DSP hardware. The …

Re: Geforce GTX 550ti and older games

DirectX 10 and later cards dont properly dither at 16bit color depth so textures and blending look awful. But that's really more DirectX 6 and older games. Games that don't support 32bit output. DirectX 8 stuff should be great as long as there aren't other compatibility poblems. GF7 and Radeon X1000 …

Re: Console graphics APIs

Apparently 10 years ago when I purchased a Dreamcast to play with, I found an article at MS about optimizing Direct3D on it. https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms834190.aspx I think the only D3D game I tried was Tomb Raider. IIRC it occasionally had significant frame rate drops that seemed …

Re: Console graphics APIs

Thanks for the info. Yeah it makes one wonder how many Xbox games are using a custom API. It sounds like developers fairly easily reverse engineered NV's pushbuffer interface. Maybe D3D was rather uncommon in games. Kinda like with Dreamcast.

Re: Fastest AGP card ever made.

The Serpent Rider wrote: Actually that crown goes to 8800GTX/Ultra. Radeon 2900XT blower cooler was just very inefficient. Yeah 8800 Ultra's cooler is less annoying. It seems to be mostly a matter of an annoying fan and poor acoustics of the housing. I don't think I know of a ATI cooler that I …

Re: Fastest AGP card ever made.

I have a HD 2900 XT 1GB in an NF4 machine at the moment. I love all that pointless memory bandwidth! Yeah the world will be 100% FP16 texturing by 2007!!!! And who wants to use MSAA anyway - cripple that stuff!!! And it's super at heating and drowning out background noise like your game. 😀

Re: GF256 stuck at AGP 1X :/

It's the NVidia drivers forcing the cards to 1x for stability. You can force 2x with Rivatuner if you like but it will probably cause freezes. I think GeForce FX cards might work ok at forced 2x (probably best to get one with aux power connection). I tried GeForce 256, 2 Pro, 3, 4 Ti, FX 5200U/5900 …

Re: X-Fi Ti HDMI header

I loaded the card into a Win7 machine to see what it says about the HDMI interface. I'm not sure the channel readout is accurate if it's not connected to something though. But I get the impression it's basically SPDIF.

X-Fi Ti HDMI header

Does anyone know anything about this HDMI header that is on some OEM X-Fi cards? Windows shows a HDMI digital output for the card as well. I guess it's for connection to some video cards? I've been wondering if this could run directly to a receiver. https://thumbs2.imgbox.com/4d/f4/DdzGSUdT_t.jpg …

Re: Fastest AGP card ever made.

GeForce 6/7 have rather basic support for SM 3.0. It's slow. It's a bit like GF5's SM2.0. It's more there for experimentation than heavy game implementation. ATI on the other hand didn't bother to support SM 3.0 at all until R500 and then they went all out and it performed quite well.

Re: Radeon 7000 PCI vs Nvidia Fx 5500 PCI?

Yeah I shopped for a Mac PCI Radeon a couple years ago and it was tricky trying to get R100 instead of RV100. ATI naming confusion. The R100 model has a fan whereas the RV100 has just a heatsink. BTW AFAIK the nicest R100 card is one with VIVO. Video I/O. It has dual composite ports. This card can …

Re: Radeon 7000 PCI vs Nvidia Fx 5500 PCI?

Radeon 7000 (originally Radeon VE) has half the 3D hardware of the original Radeon and no T&L. However it has more sophisticated display hardware. Original Radeon's other name is 7200. Radeon LE is a budget Chinese version of original Radeon with lower clocks and disabled HyperZ functions. HyperZ …
