Re: PAS16: to sound blaster or not to soundblaster

So then the Aztech would be a good choice as well, given its genuine opl3? Or does that one have problems with midi as well as the SB cards? No it works fine in all regards, it just only supports WSS for 16-bit audio. That's why I suggested adding the SB32 and using that only for digital audio (and …

It would be interesting to test Duke3D in pure DOS mode, although you might not be able to get your …

Re: An ISA Soundcard to pair with ESS1868f

You could also go with an SB16 or AWE and use the ESS card for only midi... You say you don't want it to 'require' SoftMPU... in that case you should get a HardMPU (or something that integrates it like the Orpheus). Of course this only matters for some mt32 games.

Re: PAS16: to sound blaster or not to soundblaster

Well if all it's got going for it is a genuine OPL3, I'd go for the Aztech card (genuine OPL3 + bug-free midi + WSS) and maybe the SB32 as an extra. Are there any/many games that support the PAS16 but don't offer …

Re: Short Freezes Caused by Loading New Sounds

Re: Lord of the Rings

in DOS
The OP sure likes to string people along playing charades. As for installers playing sound, the Command&Conquer installers of course were very advanced, playing sound/animations. I don't remember if they auto-detected your audio device in DOS. I do remember the C&C Renegade installer needing a patch …

Re: Sound Blaster 16 Clones

Got my ALS007 today. It's a model with a seperate line out and speaker out and has a crystal in place (seen a lot of them without crystals). Soundwise it's clear and it has a punch. It's SB16 compatibility is hit and miss though. Jazz Jackrabbit works with SB16 but stereo is reversed. In Duke Nukem …

Re: Can two PCI sound cards work together?

-Just plug in both cards -Install Windows drivers for the Live, disable the Solo in device manager. -Get Dos drivers for the Solo-1, I haven't used this card myself, if the Dos driver is just an executable you can run, run it after booting into Dos instead of it putting it in autoexec.bat to …
