Re: Help finding I38-MMSN842 driver

Cicada Lullaby wrote on 2020-05-07, 08:11: The card worked fine in windows 95 with built in drivers, but in 98 it would work, only being able to get music to work in dos games and not sfx That might be because you installed the WDM drivers.

Re: Help finding I38-MMSN842 driver

I have a Packard Bell card with the same chipset, but a slightly different ID (24 instead of 42), but maybe these drivers work: However, it worked just fine in Windows with built-in 2316 drivers. My card was recognized with built-in Windows drivers as a 'Sound Galaxy Washington 16', and the 'Aztech …

Re: What's wrong with all these sound cards???

Open a DOS prompt and type SET. It should show a BLASTER environment variable. Some games, which don't have a setup program, use this to get the card's settings. This should match whatever your drivers are emulating, however I don't know what the SBLive driver expects, maybe someone else can help …

Re: What's wrong with all these sound cards???

Ok, I'm back and I tested some games. After fixing all the video card nonsense I had (which I thought was sound card related), everything seemed to work fine. Sound now works in DOS games (under win 98) with sound blaster live SB0100. It's not perfect and it doesn't run on all games, but I expected …

Re: What's wrong with all these sound cards???

Note that he is trying to play on Win98, not pure DOS. Some of your sound issues might be speed related, your computer is quite fast and PoP and Keen are old games. I haven't tried the exact cards you have, but I have encountered opl/adlib music breaking on faster machines depening on the card and …

Re: What's wrong with all these sound cards???

See for yourself in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3AZI07_qts8 Ok, so you mean the OPL emulation. The SBLive won't have great OPL emulation either, but I'm not sure if it'll be worse. I think that when I used a SBLive with Win98 I was mostly playing later DOS games that supported …

Re: What's wrong with all these sound cards???

If you're running games from Win98, the card's actual DOS compatibility doesn't really matter. What does matter is using vxd drivers, not wdm drivers, and how well those drivers work. An SBLive would be a good choice in theory for a Win98 card. What makes the sound quality of the Vibra so horrible? …

I'm loving the FrankenPS/2 I reckon cooling is going to be a problem putting a new rig in such an old case? It's fine - as you can see, I printed an adapter to fit a intake 140mm fan and there's enough frontal grille area. There's a 120mm exhaust. I'd rather have had a 140mm exhaust as well, but …
