But then there's the question of what Bobby Prince used for his tracks. That might have been a 55 as he used that for Doom, and Duke3D does have issues with some of the later Sound Canvas devices' bugfixes, right?

Games assume FM is at port 338. Multiple cards will just play FM at the same time, however you could mute or maybe even disable the FM portion in the card's drivers. In my opinion SB16's are useless. I'm not familiar with your sound card's drivers. Configuring it as WSS seems like a good idea, however often the DOS tools also just allow you to completely disable certain parts of the card. I don't understand your Win98 issue, you say there's conflicts but also that you can't get the card's …

It probably was an OEM-ed Aztech card. Escom also had a version of the triangular azt2030, similar to Hewlett-Packard.

It could have been a lot worse. The other 2 CPUs I've been using on that slocket recently are a Mendocino 533MHz and a Coppermine Celeron 1100MHz. Both of those are fastest of their breed and would have been a lot more expensive to replace. If I'd killed one of those, I'd be ranting a lot more. :) …

Look inside autorun.inf, older Windows versions automatic ran the command in there. And yes, 64 bit Windows does not support 16 bit code, there's workarounds but you're best off using a Windows 98 VM I'd think.

Wouldn't you have to use the exact palette the game uses? Or can you select which palette the game will use? Or does the source port use 24 bit color and you just want to create a custom 256 color palette for authenticity's sake?

Isn't the issue just the sounds, but also the general behavior of the synth, such as the way it applies effects? As an SC-88 in 55 mode also doesn't sound right. You could just find an SCB-55 😜
