Did you try putting the VGA card back into PCI1 ? If I am following you, this is where it was installed when you started your tests with W285 . After some further troubleshooting, it turns out that something may be wrong with the PCI slot where I had the SCSI card installed. After I moved SCSI to different slot, I put NIC card to the PCI slot and now that NIC card doesn't work in NT4. That particular PCI slot is slot #4, right next to ISA. …

Problem solved. It turned out the SIMM closest to the RTC needed to be reseated. Visually it looked fine, but I tried it anyway. Maybe I bumped it when I was removing the original RTC. Thank you for the help everyone.

The board isn't dead. Booting without a RTC module doesn't kill a board. You could have lifted a trace or broken a solder joint. Post a high resolution pic of the back, RTC module area + board without the RTC module plugged in. It's gonna be fine, just a new adventure for your nerves :) Good …

What the OS can see depends on the combination of OS, disk controller and the BIOS. You didn't mention what HW you'd be using, but e.g. 386 era systems will usually not see more than 512MB, pentium 1 era systems may max out at 8GB, etc. No hard rules here, each system is different - to learn more …
