Didn't DOS 6.xx have trouble with more than 64MB of ram? Could you test things with only 64 or 32 MB installed? Still a nice setup though 😁

I've used 3M carpet tape before on a DX2 5v CPU, with regular size sink and fan. It conducts enough heat to keep the CPU cool enough to remain comfortably warm. Can't imagine the 3,45v 586 runs much warmer...

Cache could be the reason indeed. I've got the same board and have 15ns cache chips installed. The board runs with about every CPU I've thrown in (Intel, amd, cyrix) including DX2, dx4@100, am5x86@150 and cx5x86@100. To me it looks like it's still running at 133 with the 166 setting and degrades to 100 with the 200 setting. Could you try running out at 100 for the benchmarks? Maybe there's a multiplier pin the bios detects but the CPU ignores...

Probably not the most convenient program for n00bs, but autocad canattach / import pdf. With the raster design option you can even import lines from JPEG images.

I like the rtc boards. Hooking up a cr2032 requires basic soldering skills and some Dremel/cutting tool. If you're willing to mod them, these boards can be a fraction cheaper some times.

Did you recreate partitions and format the cf under DOS? Also you could try the "fdisk /mbr" switch to (re)construct the master boot record. Most cf are not directly suitable for bootable DOS partitions, so they have to be set up right.

Don't underestimate the power of Vanta/M64... They're great for Vesa support as well! And indeed, in Windows they're not fast, just better than Intel. Alternatively I've successfully used those steel-plastic wires from thrash bags. Just make sure the plastic is not damaged. I know, it's not bulletproof and some may think it's questionable but the plastic is not conductive enough to cause problems.
