Your best bet may be too get some pieces of plastic and sand them into shape I guess. You may be looking for a needle in a haystack, where dozens already looked. Too often those rails have been thrown away with the defunct hard drive.

Maybe the board expects a 5v external power supply for the bios settings to store, and the current 3v battery dies not provide enough to fully store, but to activate a little. Can you test with 3x 1,5v battery instead?

I use double sided carpet tape. It's thin enough and conduct heat enough for a486, to make the heat get to the sink. I admit that thermal tape would be better 😀

For the Bigfoot several things may be going on. You could look into: - the coils to position the actuator may fail. - The heads may be damaged somehow (big arm!) - some read error for positioning data - some part (s) on the PCB runs out of spec - internal data chip corrupted Good luck figuring those …

Did you use fdisk /mbr? It sets the master not record, which is more than often needed with cf

I've got one, it was found in a dead HP Vectra ISA only system. It's a regular DX2-66, blue sink glued with all the Intel printings on it. To me it seems like an Intel product, not glued by hp.

In my opinion the gf3 should be just fine. Solid windows and 3D acceleration, highly compatible with late dos era vesa modes and capable of some glide emulation. For late 2000 games this card is ok: it came out in 2001, so should handle anything you'll feed it.

The 5430 is just fine, fast enough for dos and has windows acceleration. It's not the top notch but for a dx4 this is fine. If you really want anything notably faster on VLB, prepare to donate a kidney or something.

Some little thought would be what's essentially a 50MHz bus speed S3 486 with 10x multiplier (on 2x setting) and 8 or 16MB L1 cache. Or a 386 at 40MHz x10 with 4MB L1... Or a 133x10 S7 with 32MB L1. Have a nice mem test with checkit with 64MB... It stops at 16MB and locks up or reboots the computer there.

It's been a while since I've worked with one, but weren't those supposed to run just under 300MHz? At 95x3? I also think you may get away with 75x4 or 83x3,5 if your board supports it.
