Yeah you can run a motherboard without grounded standoffs, but that doesn't guarantee it will be reliable or safe in that state. For testing it's fine but for long term installs you probably wanna ground at least a couple of them

Jaw thoroughly dropped. I'm guessing with all the cycle-counting shenanigans involved this will never run on anything but an original 5150 😢 The Marble Madness part should be turned into a full port 😀

I imagine a cage nut with a washer on it to screw in regular standoffs or a stack of washers and a longer screw... Yeah I was just thinking that. If you google "M3 cage nut", "M3 clip nut" or "6-32 cage nut", "6-32 clip nut" etc then you get some promising results. Some other alternatives here - …

Works great for setting the clock speed on a Vortex86 (which is managed by its north bridge). This will be extremely useful in my experiments with the chip. Great work!

I quite like that it can be powered from a single 12V input, and that it has LVDS - some interesting embedded enclosure designs would be possible. DOS iMac anyone? 😉

ISA will be the bottleneck here, not the choice of IDE/SCSI/flash/whatever. A PCI/VLB IDE solution will be MUCH faster than an ISA SCSI solution. On a PC that slow you will likely not notice any difference between IDE/SCSI/flash even on PCI.

Xbox 360 controllers definitely fully worked on XP. I'm surprised the Xbox One controller didn't work though, as it was released before XP's EOL. Maybe try wiring it in instead of using bluetooth? Or reinstall drivers etc?

Such a device would need to probe quite deeply into the USB protocol stack. So pretty nontrivial to make one, especially at USB2/USB3 speeds. Write-protecting an SDcard then putting it in a USB adapter might work, but at least on some devices the write protect functionality is software-bypassable
